An MCP server can make a tool callable by an AI, but it does not make ecommerce data appear or grant access to a store. The practical question is which authorized systems the AI can reach, what those tools may do, and where human review stays in the workflow.
MCP is an open standard. An AI app such as Claude or ChatGPT connects to an MCP server, and the server exposes tools. The protocol does not, by itself, grant a seller account.
Amazon's Ads MCP server has been in open beta since 2 February 2026. It is for partners with active Ads API credentials. It can create, update, or delete campaigns, run reports, manage account settings, and read billing. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or a custom agent can use it.
Amazon also publishes a local MCP for people building Selling Partner API apps. Live calls still need API credentials. It is not a Seller Central button inside ChatGPT.
Shopify's Dev MCP server looks up developer docs and validates code. It runs locally and does not require a store login. The store connection is the Admin API.
Faire, Walmart, TikTok Shop, Etsy, eBay, and WooCommerce connect through their APIs. Those API references do not include an official MCP server that replaces the seller's grant.
Use the platform's own authorization: Login with Amazon, a Shopify install, Seller Center consent, an OAuth screen, or a key created on the store. Do not paste a refresh token, a client secret, or a consumer secret into a chat.
Ask for the narrowest scope that does the job. A read does not need a write. Amazon Ads can delete a campaign and read billing, so that write should wait for a person. Amazon's own Sponsored Products tool stops at review and approval.
Connect the systems behind the work so AI can use business context inside the workflows your team already runs. Access is set by person and integration; available actions and review steps depend on the connection and agreed scope. Your team decides which tasks need human approval.
It is a tool surface an AI application can call. MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard that connection uses. The server does not, by itself, grant a seller account.
